CAFCL: Sundowns Beat Coton To Hold Top Spot In Group B.
South African Premier League leaders Mamelodi Sundowns continue their 100% start to the CAF Champions League following another impressive win over Cameroon Champions Coton Sport of Garoua at Roumde Adjia Stadium.
21-year-old Cassius Mailula scored his second and third goals of the new champions league campaign to help his side beat Coton Sport 3-1 in Garoua.
The home side began the game with a more defensive approach within the first 10 minutes – with their opponents gradually exploiting their weaknesses as the game unfolds.
The defence of Coton was made ordinary as the 2016 champions took their lead in the 10th minute courtesy of Mailula and doubled their lead within 70 seconds through Thapelo Morena.
With the 17-time Cameroon champions on a two-goal deficit, the boy of coach Gabriel Herman went offensive to reduce the deficit before halftime.
The deal finally paid off for the 2008 finalist as Patience Wassu’s strike beats the Sundown’s keeper to put Coton within one, but the boys of Rhulani Mokwena continued their normal passing game and tactics as Cassius Mailula scored his third goal of the campaign to put Sundowns 3-1 up at the interval.
The second half resumed with Coton having a huge Mountain to climb but their counterparts from South Africa continued with their game plan as they head for a second straight win in the brand-new caf champions league group stage.
The 2016 champions have now extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 15 games.
For Coton Sport, they suffered only their second straight defeat in all competitions and will play against Al Hilal of Sudan in their next Caf champions league game, while Mamelodi Sundowns will take on group favourites Al Ahly of Egypt.
Mamelodi Sundowns top group B with six points, while Coton are bottom of their group with zero point.
