Cameroon Sweep DR Congo to Open CHAN Volleyball Campaign

Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions opened their Africa Nations Volleyball Championship campaign with a straight-sets win over the Democratic Republic of Congo in Tunis on Tuesday.

Coach Patrice Ndaki‘s Lions triumphed 3-0.

Though DR Congo got off to a flying start, Cameroon soon settled down and moved ahead 10-5, then 13-7 before pulling away at 21-9 to win the first set 25-12.

They kept their nose in front in the second set, but DR Congo were always in the match, scoring one point to Cameroon’s two at 3-6 before Voukeng‘s side pushed on to 14-10 and 15-12.

They looked set to equal the score at 17–18, but Cameroon kept their cool and pulled away again to 23-20 before sealing the second set 25-21.

The Lions were too strong for DR Congo in the decider, powering ahead early on 5-3 and extending their lead to 14-9.

DR Congo made a point of showing spirit in responding, but were hounded out of the match as Cameroon surged to 14-21 and then 15-24 before closing out the match 16-25.

Cameroon made 12 aces and registered 30 kills and 8 blocks in the match, while DR Congo had 25 unforced errors.

The result sees Cameroon top Group D, which also features Rwanda and the Central African Republic, in the CAVB‘s 9-26 September fixture list.

They face the Central African Republic in their second match on 16 September at 9pm.
