CHAN 2026: Cameroon’s Volleyball Lions Return From Tunis With Silver, World Championship Qualification and Three Stars in the Dream Team
Silver in Tunis
Cameroon’s men’s volleyball team has returned from the African Nations Championship with a silver medal and qualification for the World Championship in 2027. Coach Jean-Patrice Ndaki Mboulet’s team cruised to the finals in Tunis without losing a single match.
The final against hosts Tunisia at the Palais des Sports d’El Menzah went the other way. The Eagles of Carthage won in straight sets, 25 to 22, 25 to 18 and 25 to 19, and a roaring local crowd certainly boosted the home side. Cameroon’s team battled to the last point, and to lose a final to the host nation is no disgrace.
Three Cameroonians in the Dream Team
Three Cameroonians were among the seven specialist places in the African Volleyball Confederation’s Dream Team. The two middle blocker positions go to the Lions, as Voukeng Mbativou, number 20, and William Darrel Tanga Mvilongo, number 3, are the best in the middle, the most difficult positions on the court that dictate the attack and scoring. Elie Badawe Djakode, number 10, was equaly selected as one of the best two outside hitters.
Tunisia took the libero and setter places, as well as the MVP award for Oussama Ben Romdhane. Morocco and Algeria each had one player selected in the final team.
Welcome Home and the Road to 2027
The squad landed at Douala International Airport early Monday morning, 28 September. The team was received at the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education on Tuesday by Minister Professor Narcisse Mouelle Kombi. He passed on the congratulations of Head of State Paul Biya and the whole national sporting community. The Fecavolley president, Bello Bourdanne, was present and led the delegation.

The silver medal is a confirmation of Cameroon’s place among the leading men’s volleyball nations in Africa, but the World Championship qualification is the greater prize. Captain Voukeng and his team have a year to prepare for the global stage, with three players already among the best in the continent.
