CHAN Volleyball: Cameroon Battle Past Rwanda to Book Quarter Final Slot

Cameroon’s men‘s team registered their third consecutive win at the CHAN Seniors Volleyball Championship in Tunis, as they battled past Rwanda to finish first in group D with a 3-1 set win. The Indomitable Lions will now face the round of sixteen in their quest for the title.

The victory was not as emphatic as their two previous wins against DR Congo and the Central African Republic, who both lost 3-0 to Cameroon, but the Indomitable Lions made sure they progressed to the next stage.

Rwanda started brightly and kept the pressure on Cameroon, finishing the first set 25-18, as the visitors displayed good intensity at the net and excellent serving throughout the match.

Their efforts paid off, as Cameroon made too many unforced errors and weak serves to allow Rwanda to take the first set. However, Cameroon’s preparation was paying dividends as they fought back and forced Rwanda into errors to take the second set 25-21.

The third set followed a similar pattern to the second, as the Lions showed good character to take it 25-23 and draw level with Rwanda in the tie. In the decider, Cameroon came out firing under coach Voukeng and eventually finished strongly to take the win 25-19.

Having defeated Rwanda, Cameroon were able to finish top of group D with three wins from three matches. As a result, they have progressed to the quarter finals of the tournament, hosting nation Tunisia, which is scheduled to run from 13th to 26th September.

Despite the tension of the match, Cameroon’s victory was ultimately secured.
