17-time Elite one champions Coton Sports of Garoua becomes the second most successful football club in the history of the cup of Cameroon- following a 1-0 win over Bamboutos of Mbouda in the 62nd cup final played at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde, today Sunday, October 2 2022.

A late 89th-minute goal from 21-year-old Captain Marou Souaibou ensured a seventh cup of Cameroon title for the Cotonites.

Coach Emmanuel Ndoumbe Bosso who was appearing in his fifth cup of Cameroon final with the Mangwa Boys – saw his side squandering so many goal-scoring opportunities, especially from star man Junior Kemajou who had scored five goals before the final.

The Cotonites had chances of their own through Patience Wassu and Marou Souaibou but couldn’t still capitalize on their chances.

The coming of Coton’s record goal scorer Daouda Kamilou in the second half added some experience to the attack of the elite one champions.

The lone goal of the game finally came at the 89th minute from captain Souaibou who benefited from a defensive error from Bamboutos’s keeper to score what turned out to be the winner of the clash.

This is Coton’s first domestic double since 2014 and their seventh cup of Cameroon title in their history. Only Canon of Yaounde has won more titles than the Cotonites.

Coton Sports and Bamboutos will face each other again at the Super on October 12, 2022, at the Bafoussam Omnisports Stadium.
