Douala prepares to host the Dixiades 2026 as the venue is opened for inspection

Preparations for the Dixiades 2026, to be held in Douala, are intensifying as the city readies itself to welcome the teams participating in this exciting event. It was indeed a week of activity, as a tour of the host venues was organised this week and a strategising meeting was held immediately after to put in place the necessary measures to ensure that the games, which will see the country’s best sporting talents from the ten administrative regions competing against each other, take place smoothly.

The delegation comprised the Cameroonian National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSC) Council members, Douala Local Administration Authorities, representatives of the Douala City Council and the commissions charged with the organisation of the games, among others. CNOSC Council members present included Célestine Tsama, née Engoulou, First Vice President, and Ojong David, Secretary General. Emmanuel Tataw, head of the central communication commission for the dixiades, was also present. Jean Keller Kotte, president of the marketing commission; Marie Laure Soppo, née Moukoko, delegate for communication of the Littoral Region; and a representative of the governor of the Littoral Region were also present.

In addition to the above-named personalities, the sporting community was also well represented. The President of the Littoral Regional Olympic and Sports Committee (CROS) was present, as well as the President of the Association of Cameroonian Sports Journalists (AJSC) and some members of the committees tasked with organising the games.

This visit to the host venues provided an opportunity for the delegations to take stock of the preparations, while the ensuing meeting enabled the organisers to discuss the key issues that need to be addressed to make the games a success. Indeed, the meeting focused on the logistics, venues and other infrastructure, which are the backbone of any multi-event competition such as the dixiades.

It is always behind the scenes that the unsung heroes of any competition operate and ensure that everything runs smoothly. And for the dixiades to take place in the capital city of Cameroon, a dynamic business hub that has hosted several international events, the preparations are of paramount essence. With teams from all over the country set to converge in the Littoral region, the organizers are eager to make this edition of the dixiades memorable. They want to not only create a platform for the country’s sports talents to perform but also to generate a feeling of pride among Cameroonians as the games bring together youths from all regions.

The organisers have reiterated that they are all set to ensure that the event is a great success. The message to the ten regions of Cameroon is that the decades are a unifying event through sports. And as they say, sport is the message!
