FIFA Bans Nigerian Coach For Attempted Match-Fixing

The Coach of Confine FC Uyo, Remi Amadi, has been handed a global ban of two years from all related football activities by FIFA, the world football governing body, after he was found guilty of attempted match manipulation.

FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee conveyed this decision to the Nigeria Football Federation, and it is a consequence of a similar ban imposed on the gaffer by the NFF Disciplinary Committee at its meeting of 16th August 2021.

The NFF Integrity Unit forwarded the said decision of the NFF Disciplinary Committee and all the relevant documentations to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee via a letter dated 25th August 2021, requesting the Committee to extend the sanction to have a worldwide effect, in accordance with Article 66, FIFA Disciplinary Code.

During the meeting in August, Amadi admitted before the NFF committee that he attempted to manipulate the outcome or result of the match between Cofine FC vs Bussdor FC played on March 15th, 2021 at the University of Calabar Stadium as documented in an audio conversation between them.

He also admitted that if the attempted manipulation had pulled through, the Club, Cofine FC would have benefited from such manipulation.

His accomplice, coach Emeka Okoronkwo was fined N500,000, while the result of the match between Cofine FC v. Bussdor FC played on 15th March 2021 at University of Calabar Stadium, Cross Rivers State was canceled.
