FIFA WC, 2022: Morocco Can Still Finish Third – Didier Drogba.
Former Ivory Coast Captain, Didier Drogba says Morocco still has a chance to finish third in this year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The two time African player of the year was speaking to the BBC as he challenge Morocco to create history by finishing third in the competition when they take on Croatia on Saturday.
“I’ve seen a great Moroccan team, who gave everything to win,” the Ivory Coast legend told BBC Radio 1.
“They weren’t really focusing on the final pass to score a goal and they got punished by a France team, who scored goals when it really mattered. Morocco still has the chance to make history and finish third in the final game.”
Morocco created history by becoming the first African nation to reach the Semifinals of the World following their 1-0 win over Portugal in the quarterfinals.
Before reaching the Semifinals, th Atlas lions became the fourth African nation to reach the World Cup quarter-finals after Cameroon, Senegal and Ghana which failed to go beyond that stage.
Morocco were in dreamland to become the first African nation to reach the World Cup final, but this dream was shattered by defending champions France at the Al Bayt Stadium which ended 2-0 for the European nation.
However, the 1976 African champions will play in the third-place match against Croatia – who lost to Argentina in their semifinal clash on Tuesday.
The Atlas Lions will then return for the AFCON 2023 qualifiers as they continue to search for a second AFCON title.
