Former Cameroon Midfielder Mbami Modeste Dies, Age 40.

Former Cameroon International midfielder Modeste Mbami has died, aged 40.

The former Marseille midfielder who retired in 2014 died from Cardiac arrest this Saturday in France.

Mbami was part of the historic Olympic lions squad that won the 2000 Olympic Games in Sidney, Australia alongside the likes of Lauren Etame, Geremi Njitap, Samuel Eto’o and Patrick Mboma. This paved a green light for the youngster at a time as he went on to make a total of 38 caps for the indomitable lions from 2000 to 2009 – scoring five goals.

He was also part of the historic Cameroon team that played the final of the FIFA Confederation Cup in 2003 in France – and represented Cameroon in the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia.

The 40-year-old had a great club career – as he began the journey to professional football with Cameroon’s second-tier side Dynamo Douala in the late 1990s.

He had spells in France where he played for Sedan and PSG – winning two French cups with PSG between 2004 and 2006.

He also has spells in Spain with Almeria, then to China, Saudi Arabia and Colombia.

He will always be remembered as one of Cameroon’s finest midfielders.
