From FAP Yaoundé to Kansas City Current: Nyadjou Makes Cameroonian History
Amazone FAP’s central defender Myriam Maeva Nyadjou has agreed to a three-year deal with Kansas City Current, one of the top sides in the United States’ National Women’s Soccer League, leaving behind Amazone FAP of Yaoundé and, with it, the Guinness Super League she grew up playing in.
It’s a first for Cameroonian women’s football. No player from the domestic league has made this particular jump before, straight from the local top flight into one of the strongest club competitions in the world.
Nyadjou’s rise came into sharp focus at the recent Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where she was named the tournament’s best central defender.
There was one moment in particular that stood out. Against Nigeria in the quarter-finals of the AWCON, with Cameroon’s tournament hanging in the balance, Nyadjou stepped up and scored directly from a free kick, sending Cameroon through.
