Mt CMR Race of Hope 2023: Tata Carine Wins Fifth Crown As Adamou Issa Wins First Crown.

  • Tata Carine becomes the fourth Woman to win the Mount Cameroon race of hope more than four times (2018, 2019,2020, 2022, & 2023)
  • Sarah Liengu Etonge, Ngwang Catherine, and Ngwaya Yvonne are the only women with more than four titles.
  • Orange Cameroon became the main sponsor of the Race as they signed a two year deal with the Cameroon Athletic Federation.
  • Amadou Issa became the 27th male name to win the Mount Cameroon Race of hope.

 

Tata Carine wins the 50th edition of the Mount Cameroon Race in five hours, 18 minutes to become only the fourth woman to win the race five times.

The 26-year-old beat rival Kitang Mildred to win the converted title.  Speaking to the press, Tata Carine express her delight as she attain another milestone in her career.

I am so happy for winning the race for the fifth time. This year, I went through a lot of difficulties. I didn’t even know if I would participate in the race this year,” Tata Carine told journalists.

Meanwhile, Amadou Issa beats last year’s winner Elvis Nsambila to become the 27th male athlete to win the race. The 32 year old crossed finish line in four hours, 39 minutes.

I am happy to win the race and having crossed the line I feel fine. When I was coming down I was around the sixth position around Hut One but I had to put in enough effort. By the time I reached the tar, God gave me some extra power which I used to dominate,” Adamu Issa Buba said.

It should be noted that this year’s race was a historic one as it clocks 50 years since it began in 1973.

For the first time in close to five years, the race finally gets a new sponsor Orange Cameroon as they signed a two-year deal with the Cameroon Athletic Federation.

Their impact this year was felt by the population of Cameroon and Buea in particular with the fans having a feel of the race as it was in the past years – an,d for the first time the past legends of the race were honoured by the Sponsors.

According to the Sponsors, there will be more innovations in the next edition – as there will be an increase in the prize money.
