New Heights, New Horizons: Cameroon Volleyball Federation Charts Ambitious Course for 2025

Published on

In an engrossing New Year’s address, Cameroon Volleyball Federation President Mr. Bello Bourdane looked back to a transformational 2024 while mapping out an ambitious course for the sport’s future. His very recent election to the Zone 4 Presidency has placed Cameroon in a position of regional prominence, marking yet another key milestone for volleyball development in Central Africa.

Historic Achievements in Training and Development
It was a leap in coaching development never experienced in 2024, with Cameroon becoming a world leader in certified volleyball coaches. “We have achieved something exceptional,” Bourdane said proudly. “In just one year, Cameroon has positioned itself among countries with the highest number of Level 1 and Level 2 coaches, not just in Africa, but worldwide.” The federation’s pursuit of excellence went further with five new Level 3 coaches while two other coaches earned instructor status with the FIVB.

Record Domestic Competition
Today, it’s a greatly expanded national championship, covering every inch of the nation. “From Bertoua to Yaoundé, from Douala to Sangmelima, we are creating volleyball vocations everywhere we go,” Bourdane insists. All this development at the grassroots has been rewarded with real results: the Cameroonian clubs made unprecedented success in the international arena and, for the first time in many years, have been able to position two teams among the continental top 8.

The Future: The Vision 2032
The federation has an ambitious development plan running up to 2032, notably for its youth. “We are not just looking at immediate results,” Bourdane said. “For 2025, we have great innovations in grassroots volleyball, reorganizing all youth championships regardless of their category, first at regional levels, before going to the national level.”

Among key programs for 2025 are:

  • Hosting of the African U-20 Championships
  • New Youth Development Programs throughout regions
  • Developing the National League
  • Preparing for the 2026 African Championships with Olympic qualification in mind

Regional Leadership and International Recognition
Since being elected Zone 4 President, Bourdane has set ambitious goals for regional development. “Our zone currently lacks youth competitions and national team tournaments. We aim to change this by developing volleyball across all member countries, bringing weaker nations up to competitive standards within four years.”
This visit from the President of CAVB has simply just reassured the status of Cameroon within African volleyball. It won hosting rights for international youth championships. Solidarity, a Sure Way to Success

He concluded his address, calling for unity within the volleyball family: “I call upon the entire volleyball family to remain united as in the past and be determined so that together we can achieve our set objectives. Results will come naturally, but first, we must be united-united in adversity, united in difficulty, and above all, united in our common goal.”

In fact, without major trophies in 2024, it is clear that the federation’s focus on long-term development and infrastructure building can only mean that the future for Cameroonian volleyball is very bright, especially with the hope of qualification for the Olympic Games in 2028.
