No Easy Road: Litto Team and Mayo Kani Face Stiff Tests in African Champions League Draw
Cameroon’s two representatives in the 2026 African Women’s Club Volleyball Championship now know exactly what lies ahead. Following Sunday’s technical meeting and draw in Cairo, both Litto Team and Mayo Kani have been placed in their respective groups for a competition that runs from 11 to 24 April, and the road ahead looks anything but straightforward for either side.
Mayo Kani, perhaps the unluckier of the two in terms of the draw’s optics, finds themselves in Pool A alongside Egyptian giants Al Ahly, the host club and a perennial force in continental volleyball. Côte d’Ivoire’s CO Descartes and Ethiopia’s National Alcohol Factory complete the group. Sharing a pool with the organisers is never ideal, and Al Ahly’s support at home will add another layer of pressure to what is already a demanding assignment.
Litto Team, for their part, have been handed a Pool D that will feel familiar in the worst possible way. They face Kenya Commercial Bank, one of the most decorated clubs on the continent, alongside Nigeria’s Vipers and Partners and ARSU from the Seychelles. It is worth noting that Litto Team has encountered opposition from Kenyans and Nigerians at this level before, and the experience has rarely been comfortable. Whether the accumulated knowledge from these confrontations translates into better results this time around remains to be seen.
The wider field is no less competitive. Pool B brings together Kenya Pipeline, VC La Loi of DR Congo, Senegal’s Sococim, Ghana’s Kalibi Sporting Club and Burundi’s Gender Light. Pool C, perhaps the most eclectic of the four, features Tunisia’s CF Carthage, Nigeria Customs Service, Kenya’s DCI, Uganda’s Kampala Capital City Authority, and Congo’s Eagles.
