2023 Cup of CMR: Victoria Utd Egde Rainbow To Seal A 16 Finals Spot.

  • Victoria United becomes the first South West Club to reach the round of 16 since Option Sport in 2021.

MTN Elite two champions Victoria United have beaten North West Regional outfit Rainbow FC of Bamenda 2-1 at the Bamenzi stadium to seal a round 16 spot of the ongoing Cup of Cameroon.

Ikose Njuma and Andrien Mboma scored the goals for Victoria United, while Gilberto Silva scored the lone goal for Rainbow FC.

Rainbow FC was reduced to 10 men after their goalkeeper was shown a straight red card after he committed a foul on Ikose Njuma – preventing a goal-scoring opportunity.

This was Victoria United’s first appearance at the Cup of Cameroon since 2017 when they reached the semifinals.

The boys of coach Guy Kanguia squandered a series of chances in the first minutes of the game. The Limbe base side finally got their goal in the 16th minute through 17-year-old Ikose Njuma. This was the youngster’s first goal at the Cup of Cameroon in two appearances and his second since joining Victoria United.

Rainbow FC had their chances but couldn’t capitalise on them, as the game ended 1-0 to Victoria United at the interval.

Victoria United continue to have glaring opportunities to score the second goal but their chances were squandered.

Things fall apart for Rainbow as they were reduced to 10 men after their goalkeeper was shown a straight red card for a foul on Ikose Njuma midway through the second half.

With a goal down, and a man down, the finalist of the 2021 North West Regional Mini Interpool got their equaliser three minutes to full-time through Gilberto Silva.

Everyone at the stands knew the game was going to penalty shootout, but Victoria United got the stoppage-time winner through substitute Andrien Mboma to seal a 2-1 win for Opopo.
