In an exciting move to boost volleyball development in Cameroon, the national volleyball federation has established two new academies in the South Region. The announcement came during the fourth round of the National League 1 championships in Sangmelima.
Federation President Bello Bourdane led the launch of the Excellence Centre of Sangmelima Volleyball Academy and the Sangmelima Technical High School Volleyball Academy. These new training centres are part of a broader strategy to develop world-class volleyball talent in Cameroon by 2030.
The launch event drew key regional officials, including the South Region Governor’s representative, the Divisional Officer for Dja and Lobo, and the Divisional delegate of the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education, among others. The federation provided essential equipment, including volleyball nets and balls, to get the academies started.
“Our federation will send expert trainers to ensure these academies meet international standards” Bourdane explained during the ceremony.
The federation’s commitment goes beyond just equipment. Bourdane promised ongoing support through regular visits from technical experts who will work alongside local coaches to maintain high training standards.
“What we’re planting today is a seed,” Bourdane said. “With support from local authorities and the dedication of our academy directors, we believe these centres will produce exceptional results. This initiative is part of our mission, approved by the Ministry of Sports, to develop volleyball across Cameroon.”
During the event, Bourdane also spoke to attending athletes, emphasizing the importance of fair play and strong ethical values in sports.
These new academies represent a significant step forward in Cameroon’s volleyball development program, creating pathways for young athletes to reach the highest levels of the sport.
