Victoria United have extended their lead to four points clear at the top of the MTN Elite two championship with a 1-1 draw away to Leopard of Douala at the Douala Reunification Stadium Annex.
Djacba Junior opened scores after a well-executed individual brilliance to put coach Guy Kamguia’s side in front, but Leopard midfielder – Hamadou Zapha scored the equaliser for the home side as Coach Jean Baptiste Bisseck’s side seals a vital point.
The game started with the away side having a majority of the ball possession within the first 25 minutes of the game, but Coach Bisseck and his boys had their game plan of hitting the league leaders on a counterattack.
Djacba Junior got the first shot on target just outside the main area but goalkeeper Eugene Essome produced a safe. Njanko Clovis and Ferdinand will then have their first shots on goal but couldn’t hit the target.
Being second best for the majority of the first half, the home side clicked with a first attacking trait on the away side but Thomson’s set piece was miscalculated by Captain Andre Ndame.
The game was goalless at halftime as both teams couldn’t capitalize on their chances.
The Douala base side is unbeaten in their last four games – changed tactics in the second half as they almost got the first goal of the game.
Victoria United held their composure as they took control of the game as Djacba scored the game’s opening goal after a counterattack led by Song Che.
Leopard of Douala continued with their game plan as Coach Jean Baptist brought in Joel Ndedi who became a trait to the Victoria United defence.
In the 71st minute, Nathanael’s shot was saved by Peter Defang – leaving the Opopo defenders ball watchers as Hamadou Zapha scored the equalizing goal to put the game all square.
Both teams thrive as they made efforts to get the winning goal but couldn’t utilize their chances as it ended 1-1.
