Victoria United got their fifth win against a littoral base side – following a 4-0 win over Leopard Sportive of Douala at the Limbe Centenary Stadium.
A second-half brace from Besong Toni – followed by goals from two substitutes: Yannick Eyong and Yannick Kouedjou ensured the first win for Victoria United under coach Guy Kamguia.
The Centenary Stadium was hosting its first game in elite two after a 35-day World Cup break.
The fans of Victoria United animated the popular end of the Centenary Stadium as they chair their team to victory.
Coach Guy Kamguia started with two debutants: Yvan Marcel and Boris Takang but his team looks timid within the first five minutes as Gerald Bakinde had a shot from 30 yards but was saved by Idriss Youssouf who was making his debut for Opopo.
The Douala-base side continues to mount pressure as Victoria United keeper Youssouf’s weak pass fell on Leopard’s Adophe Mouandjo who found Joel Ndedi but was saved by Youssouf.
It took Victoria United almost half an hour to produce a shot on target through captain Boubou Yindui.
Clovis Mbongo had the best chance of the first half but his shot went wide – as Joel Ndedi also squandered a chance to put Leopard in front with four minutes to halftime.
Victoria United looked the better side in the second half as Bessong sets up Jonas Mbome but his shot was saved by goalkeeper Eugene Essome of Leopard.
The first goal of the game came from Besong Toni who had a 30-yard long-range effort that beat the goalkeeper of Leopard to put Opopo in front.
Besong Toni benefited from Leopard’s Shambolic defence as he scored the second goal for Opopo.
Substitute Yannick Eyong benefited from a beautiful pass from Besong Toni to score the third goal for the 2018 cup of Cameroon semifinalists.
Heading to the last 15 minutes, Elias Mbome on the right flank combined with Besong to set up substitute Yannick Kouedjou who netted the fourth goal for Victoria United.
The next stop for Victoria United is away to AS FAP on Saturday while Leopard takes on Dynamo in a Littoral derby.
