Former international and coach passes away at home in Bafoussam
The Cameroon volleyball community is mourning the loss of one of its most beloved figures after Tongtong Siewe Emile died on Tuesday following a lengthy battle with illness.
The former international, who dedicated his life to nurturing the next generation of talent in the Central African nation, passed away at his home in Bafoussam on 21st October, the Cameroon Volleyball Federation (FECAVOLLEY) confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday.
Tongtong Siewe wasn’t just another coach on the touchline – he was the real deal, a proper legend who built something lasting. The Arc-en-Ciel Volleyball training centre in Bafoussam stands as his legacy, a factory of talent that has produced some of the country’s brightest stars.
His CV speaks volumes. After hanging up his playing boots following an international career, he turned his hand to coaching and made an immediate impact with Cameroon’s U18 women’s side, guiding them to African glory in Nigeria back in 2021. But it was his eye for talent and his tireless work as a technical educator that truly set him apart.
Among those who benefited from his expertise are several players now plying their trade at the highest level. MBOU/OMBOUO Marie Tina has made her mark at Litto Team Volleyball Academy, whilst SIMO MOGUE Danielle Patricia is turning heads at Mayo Kani Evolution. Mohamed Bachrou represents Cameroon Sport with distinction, Njikam Ousman has found success at Dynamic Sport Academy Volleyball, and Mewafo Kamdem Nancy is making waves at FAP Volleyball.
Tongtong Siewe was also the proud father of senior international Christiane Brandy Gatcheu, whose career stands as a testament to the sporting values and unwavering commitment he instilled in all those fortunate enough to cross his path.
FECAVOLLEY President Bello Bourdanne, speaking on behalf of the Executive Bureau, expressed his profound sadness at the loss. “The passing of this great servant of our national game represents an immense loss for the Cameroonian sporting family and particularly for the volleyball community in the West Region,” he said.
The federation extended its sincere condolences to the grieving family, to his loved ones, his students, and to the entire Cameroonian and African volleyball community.
“May the earth of our ancestors rest lightly upon him,” the statement concluded.
Tongtong Siewe will remain in the minds of many across Cameroon and beyond, as the volleyball world bids farewell to a man who gave everything to the sport he loved.
