Cameroon’s beach volleyball delegation has touched down in Morocco ahead of what promises to be a thrilling African U21 Beach Volleyball Championship, with the nation’s emerging talent looking to establish themselves on the continental stage.
The Cameroonian squad arrived in Morocco on Wednesday at around midday, having departed their homeland in the early hours of Tuesday night. The timing couldn’t be better, with the kingdom already buzzing from the ongoing senior African Beach Volleyball Championships that kicked off on 23rd June, bringing together the continent’s finest beach volleyball players.
Four Pairs to Fly the Flag
Dr Deris Meh, Deputy Secretary General of the Cameroon Volleyball Federation (FECAVOLLEY), leads the team as head of delegation. The team comprises eight athletes forming four pairs – two women’s duos and two men’s partnerships – alongside two national coaches and a technical official.
It’s been a swift transition from preparation to competition. The squad completed their final training camp in Yaoundé, where six pairs initially vied for selection across both categories. The coaching staff made the tough calls, trimming each category down to two pairs for the continental showdown.
Getting Down to Business
Wednesday morning saw the Cameroon team wasted no time getting their bearings. They conducted a thorough reconnaissance of the playing area and caught glimpses of the senior teams in action.
The U21 championship officially gets underway this Friday, 27th June, with the day’s technical meeting setting the stage for what should be an engaging tournament featuring the continent’s most promising young talent.
Building Beach Volleyball’s Future
This foray into international competition aligns perfectly with FECAVOLLEY’s broader vision under President Bello Bourdanne’s leadership.
The federation has made no secret of its ambition to promote and popularise beach volleyball across Cameroon, with the ultimate goal of breaking into the sport’s elite circle of nations.
For these young Cameroonian athletes, the African U21 Beach Volleyball Championship represents more than just another tournament – it’s a stepping stone towards establishing their country as a genuine force in beach volleyball’s rapidly expanding landscape.
The stage is set in Morocco’s coastal setting, and Cameroon’s beach volleyball hopefuls are ready to serve notice that they mean business on the sand.
