The fourth round of Cameroon’s MTN Elite One Championship delivered an unusual narrative as away sides seized control across the country, claiming four victories and indicating a dramatic shift in the season’s balance of power. From Yaoundé to Bafang, travelling teams showed remarkable resilience and tactical ability, leaving home supporters frustrated and questioning what went wrong.
PWD Bamenda Keep Rolling with Third Straight Victory
FAUVE AZUR ELITE # PWD BAMENDA (1-2 )
PWD Bamenda continued their impressive start to the campaign with a hard-fought 1-2 triumph over Fauve Azur Elite at the Annex 1 Omnisports stadium on 9 February. The match, attended by several football dignitaries including former international Bernard Tchoutang and ANAFOOT Director General Enow Ngatchou, showcased the visitors’ growing confidence.
From the opening whistle, Bamenda’s intent was clear. Their high-pressing game unsettled Fauve Azur’s backline, and it took just eleven minutes for Filding Ndonwie to capitalize on the pressure, slotting home the opener. The hosts responded with spirit but lacked the clinical edge required to trouble PWD’s well-drilled defense.
After the interval, Fauve Azur threw everything forward in search of an equalizer, leaving gaps at the back. Patrick Fongang punished them in the 74th minute, doubling the advantage with a composed finish. Junior Bembong’s late strike five minutes from time gave the home supporters brief hope, but PWD held firm to secure a vital three points. With victories now over Gazelle FA, Stade Renard, and Fauve Azur, PWD have established themselves as genuine contenders, sitting comfortably in the leading seats of the championship.
Canon Sportif Finally Find Their Shooting Boots
Aigle Royal du Moungo # Canon Sportif de Yaoundé (0-1)
After three matches without tasting victory, Canon Sportif de Yaoundé finally broke their duck with a narrow 0-1 win over Aigle Royal du Moungo. The encounter, which kicked off at 2PM at the Melong Municipal stadium, began cautiously as both sides sought to build on disappointing starts to the season. The opening period saw Canon edge the chances. Ako Assomo tested Aigle’s goalkeeper in the 20th minute, before Joel Bakanda went close half an hour into proceedings. The hosts’ best opportunity fell to Nga Essoue on 41 minutes, but neither team could find a breakthrough before the break.
Canon emerged from the dressing room with renewed purpose and patience. Their persistence paid dividends six minutes from time when a thunderous 30-yard strike finally beat Aigle’s goalkeeper, visibly surprised, sending the visiting bench into ecstasies. Patrice Noukeu, head coach of Canon Yaoundé who has been under pressure since the kickoff of the season was visibly relieved after the game. “We’ll keep working,” he reflected. “We’ve managed to score that first goal and take the win, so the road is now open. I think the lads will eventually start putting the ball away more regularly. What matters most is being present in the game, as you saw, and creating as many chances as possible.”
Stade Renard Rescue Point in Dramatic Fashion
Stade Renard # Coton Sport (2-2)
The encounter between Stade Renard and Coton Sport delivered end-to-end entertainment, finishing in an exciting 2-2 stalemate. FIFA referee Foudouop Yannick had barely blown his whistle when the hosts struck through youngster Kouam Polla, finding the net after just three minutes of flowing football. Coton Sport, however, are not serial champions for nothing. After seven minutes of patient build-up play, Ahidjo Mohamadou unleashed a magnificent equalizer that had the travelling support on their feet.
Felix Oukine restored Coton’s advantage just before the hour mark, and as heavy rain descended on the stadium, it appeared the visitors would claim all three points. But Stade Renard refused to capitulate, mounting pressure after pressure. Deep into stoppage time, with water pooling across the pitch, a poorly cleared corner fell to Koum Dipita, who hammered home a dramatic 91st-minute leveler. The result leaves Stade Renard still searching for their first win of the campaign, whilst Coton Sport extended their unbeaten run to four matches.
Champions Humbled as Fortuna Steal Show
Colombe Sportive du Dja et Lobo # AS Fortuna (0-1)
In perhaps the most significant result of the weekend, defending champions Colombe Sportive du Dja et Lobo suffered a sobering 0-1 home defeat to AS Fortuna de Mfou at the Ngoa Ekelle stadium. Before a crowd of 2,500, the largest attendance of the match day, the titleholders were outfought and outthought by determined opponents. The opening 45 minutes belonged to neither side, with genuine goal-scoring opportunities at a premium. Both teams cancelled each other out in midfield, producing a stalemate that frustrated the home faithful.

Second defeat of the season for Colombe
Fortuna came out with greater intent after the restart and reaped their reward just past the hour. Philippe Essama Bengono’s sublime pass dissected the Colombe defence, releasing Joseph Mbock into acres of space. With both the goalkeeper and defenders beaten by the precision of the pass, the young forward made no mistake, side-footing calmly into the net. Colombe pushed for an equaliser but lacked conviction and composure. Fortuna could even have extended their lead, spurning several counter-attacking chances before settling for a precious clean sheet.
At the post-game press conference, coach Richard Towa of Colombe urged patience with his youthful squad. “We’re only four weeks into our preparation, and we have young players who don’t yet understand the intensity and rigor needed to win. It’s becoming complicated, but I’m convinced they’ll rediscover their old level. It will take time, which is why we need to work in complete calm.”
Unisport Edge Thriller in Bafang Deluge
Unisport du Haut Nkam # Victoria united (2-1)
Unisport du Haut Nkam welcomed Victoria United at the Gaston Ngadjui stadium in Bafang. The last time both teams met in this stadium was two years ago (February 12th 2023) in the elite two championship A game that ended prematurely after the crowd invaded the pitch of play to deny Opopo a penalty. The story was different on February 8th 2026 with torrential rain greeting both teams. Nevertheless, the climatic conditions couldn’t dampen an absorbing contest between both teams. The hosts prevailed 2-1 in a match decided by fine margins and individual quality. Several promising attacks from both strikers came to nothing in the early exchanges, before Koloto Vivien Frédéric broke the deadlock in the 11th minute. His well-struck free kick from the edge of the area left Opopo’s keeper grasping at air, giving the red and yellows a deserved advantage at the interval.
Victoria emerged determined to turn the tide after half-time, throwing numbers forward in search of parity. But they were caught on the counter in the 64th minute when Charles Auguste Larfey doubled Unisport’s lead with a clinical finish. The visitors refused to surrender, and their persistence was rewarded deep into stoppage time. Faustin Ambassa Manga reduced the deficit with virtually the last kick of the game, but there was insufficient time remaining for Victoria to complete an unlikely comeback.
Dynamo’s Perfect Home Record Continues
Dynamo # Aigle Royal de la Menoua (2-0)
Dynamo de Douala maintained their flawless record at the Annexe stadium of the Stade de la Réunification, dismantling Aigle Royal de la Menoua 2-0 to cement their position amongst the early title challengers. The victory represented a statement of intent from Simplis Soh’s increasingly formidable outfit. After a goalless first period, Dynamo struck early in the second half. Jules Armand Kooh pounced on a defensive error in the 51st minute, slotting past the exposed goalkeeper to send the home support into delirium. The striker’s third goal of the campaign extended his lead at the top of the scoring charts.

Five minutes later, Joseph Alexandre Nde put the result beyond doubt. His set-piece delivery was perfection itself, the ball arcing beautifully into the top corner and leaving the visiting custodian with no chance. With nine points from a possible twelve, Dynamo boast the division’s most potent home attack, having scored nine times whilst conceding just three. Manager Soh was full of praise: “We needed this victory, the supporters needed it, and congratulations to the boys who became men today. Dynamo’s strength is that the players are starting to believe, they’re enjoying themselves, and there’s no pressure because others are the favourites.”
Gazelle Silence Bandjoun to Maintain Perfect Away Form
Panthère Sportive du Ndé # Gazelle FA (0-1)
Panthère Sportive du Ndé’s unbeaten start came crashing down at the Stade Fotso Victor in Bandjoun, where Gazelle Football Academy de Garoua secured a precious 0-1 away victory on 8 February. The result extended Gazelle’s remarkable record on their travels whilst handing the hosts their first setback of the campaign. The first half proved a tactical stalemate, with both sides cancelling each other out through disciplined defensive organization. Clear-cut chances were scarce as midfield congestion dominated proceedings.

Gazelle FA of Garoua difficult to beat away from home
Gazelle emerged with sharper attacking ambitions after the restart, sensing their hosts’ vulnerability. Their breakthrough arrived just after the hour mark through André Fouda Omgba’s exquisite set piece. The free kick from distance gave the Panthère goalkeeper absolutely no chance, curling beyond his despairing dive and into the corner. Stung by conceding, Nzuimanto attempted to mount a comeback, but Gazelle’s defensive organization proved impenetrable. The visitors defended resolutely, absorbing pressure and protecting their slender advantage until the final whistle confirmed three vital points.
Match Day Four: Statistical Overview
The fourth round of fixtures produced compelling statistical narratives. Seven matches yielded six victories and just one draw, with away teams claiming four wins against only two home successes. Canon Sportif, PWD Bamenda, Gazelle FA, and AS Fortuna all triumphed on opposition turf, whilst Dynamo Douala and Unisport Bafang provided the only home joy. Four matches finished with clean sheets, three secured by travelling sides.
Fifteen goals were shared across the seven encounters, averaging 2.14 per game. Only four goals arrived in the opening period, with eleven coming after the interval. The fastest strike came from Stade Renard’s Kouam Polla after just four minutes.
Twelve new names joined the scoring charts, bringing the season’s total to 33 different goalscorers from 50 goals across 28 matches. No penalties were awarded during match day four, and the campaign remains free of own goals. Every team has now conceded at least once. Jules Armand Kooh leads the golden boot race with three goals, whilst several players have netted twice. The best attendance came at the Stade Militaire, where 2,500 spectators witnessed Colombe’s defeat to AS Fortuna.
