CAFCL Final: Al Ahly Wins 11th Crown With A Draw At Wydad.

Al Ahly of Egypt has won a record 11th CAF Champions League crown after defeating  Wydad Athletic Club  of Casablanca 3-2 on aggregate following a 1-1 draw in the second leg final at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca on Sunday night.

Mohammed Abdelmonen scored the equalising goal from a corner at the 78th minute to seal the Champions League crown for the Red Devils.

Yahia Attiyat-Allah had put the defending champions in front at the 27th minute as they were on the verge of winning their fourth title.

Al Ahly won the first leg 2-1 in Cairo last week Sunday and were on the advantage going into the second leg.

Ethiopian referee, Bamlak Tessesama was officiating his last game of his illustrious career at the age of 42.

Wydad has beaten Al Ahly in two champions league finals (2017 & 2022) and the Red Devils were in for revenge.

With a goal down on aggregate, Wydad went in for an attacking approach to get an early goal but it didn’t pose a threat to Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohammed El Shenawy.

Al Ahly looked more dangerous in counterattacks with the pace of Mahmoud Kahraba and Percy Tau but couldn’t break the deadlock.

At the 27th minute, Yahia Attiyat-Allah put Wydad in front as the away goal rule played to the advantage of the defending champions at this point.

Al Ahly’s Hussein El Shahat could have seen red after he pulled the shirt of Referee Bamlak Tessema following a controversial decision.

Wydad maintain their lead at the break, although Al Ahly had chances to equalise.

Al Ahly knew a goal will be enough to clinch the title for the 11th time. The moment finally came at the 78th minute after Maaloul’s corner was glanced into the back of the net following a flick from defender Mohammed Abdelmonen.

Wydad continue search a second goal to take the game to extra time but the Al Ahly goalkeeper was up to the task as the game ended 1-1.

Al Ahly wins the tie 3-2 on aggregate and clinch a record 11th CAF Champions League crown.
