After a three-decade wait, Nigeria is hosting the prestigious CAVB Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship, with 16 elite teams competing from April 1-14, 2025, at the Moshood Abiola Sports Stadium in Abuja. Cameroon’s volleyball pride is represented by two determined squads: Mayo Kani Evolution in Pool A and Litto Team in Pool D.
Litto Team Shines While Mayo Kani Fights for Survival
Cameroon’s Litto Team has made an impressive start to their African Championship campaign, crushing Ivory Coast’s Descartes 3-0 in their opening match. Without breaking a sweat, the reigning Cameroon Cup holders dominated with set scores of 25-18, 25-14, and 25-22.
“Abuja is nice!” was the jubilant cry from Litto supporters after witnessing their team’s commanding performance. The girls from Littoral Region showed why they’re considered serious contenders in Pool D, having built on their experience from honorable showings in Tunisia 2023 and Egypt 2024.
However, their compatriots, Mayo Kani Evolution, faced a tougher start. The tournament hosts, Nigeria Customs Service, supported by cheering local fans and with the Nigerian First Lady as chief sponsor, overpowered Mayo Kani 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-22) in the championship opener.
Mayo Kani’s Stunning Comeback
With their tournament survival on the line, Mayo Kani Evolution showed remarkable resilience in their second match against Rwanda’s APR. Despite analysts predicting a certain defeat against the Rwandan powerhouse – unbeaten against Cameroonian teams for the past three years – Mayo Kani pulled off a stunning upset.

Coach L’Or Pauline Victoire Ngon Ntame’s charges battled to a hard-fought 3-1 victory (25-18, 19-25, 21-25, 19-25), breathing new life into their championship hopes. The win clearly showed that Mayo Kani remains focused on their ultimate goal: bringing gold back to Cameroon on April 14.
Litto Team Faces Kenyan Test
Litto Team’s journey hit a roadblock in their second match against Kenya Pipeline. Despite pushing the Kenyan powerhouse to four sets and claiming the third set 25-23, they ultimately fell 3-1 (25-20, 25-18, 23-25, 25-21).
Tournament Structure
The championship features four pools of four teams each:
- Pool A: Nigeria Customs (NGR), Mayo Kani (CMR), APR (RWA), CFC (TUN)
- Pool B: Zamalek (EGY), Kenya Prisons (KEN), CNS (NGR), Spiking Stars (BOT)
- Pool C: Ahly (EGY), KCB (KEN), VC La Loi (COD), Sococim (SEN)
- Pool D: Kenya Pipeline (KEN), Litto Team (CMR), Police (RWA), Descartes (CIV)
What’s Next?
Both Cameroonian representatives now face critical matches to advance in the tournament. The Cameroon Volleyball Federation (Fécavolley) has provided unwavering support to ensure the teams compete under optimal conditions.
For Mayo Kani, their final pool match against Tunisia’s CFC will determine their fate in the competition. Meanwhile, Litto Team must regroup for their final pool game against Rwanda’s Police, needing a win to keep their championship dreams alive.
The pressure is mounting, but Cameroon’s volleyball ambassadors have shown they have the heart and determination to make their nation proud on African volleyball’s biggest stage.
