PAD LAUNCHES AFRICAN CAMPAIGN WITH DOMINANT VICTORY

Port Autonome de Douala Demolishes Kenya Prisons in Straight Sets Opener

Port Autonome de Douala (PAD) has started their African Championship campaign with a bang, dismantling Kenya Prisons in straight sets: 3-0 (25-20, 32-30, 25-21). This commanding victory gives the Cameroonian side crucial momentum as they navigate the tournament’s group stages.

Led by captain Fabassou Papa Jackson, PAD showed tremendous resilience especially in a tight second set, where they prevailed 32-30 after an intense battle. Their collective strength and technical superiority proved too much for their Kenyan opponents throughout the match.

PAD’s dominance was apparent from the opening exchanges, with their powerful serving disrupting the Kenyan reception and allowing the Cameroonian blockers to set up effectively at the net. The first set saw PAD establish an early lead that they never relinquished, closing it out 25-20 with minimal fuss.

The second set provided significantly more drama, with Kenya Prisons adjusting their tactics and finding more rhythm in attack. Both teams traded points in a tense battle that extended beyond the standard 25 points. PAD showed remarkable composure under pressure, eventually prevailing 32-30 after saving several set points. This set proved crucial to the match outcome, as it clearly deflated the Kenyan side.

In the third set, PAD maintained their superiority, though Kenya Prisons fought valiantly to stay in the contest. The Cameroonians’ superior attacking options and tactical awareness eventually told as they closed out the match 25-21, sealing an impressive straight-sets victory.

PAD’s victory positions them favorably in Group C, where they’ll face Kepler VC (Rwanda) in their next encounter. The team’s ultimate goal remains clear: lifting the trophy on April 30 in Misrata.

Tournament organisers have praised the high standard of play on display during the opening matches, with PAD’s performance catching the eye of many neutral observers.
