MTN Elite One | Season 2025–2026 | Matchday 6 Review
Matchday 6 of the MTN Elite One championship did exactly what the best football weekends tend to do: it reshuffled the pack and threw up a few surprises. Spread across the week — Wednesday 18 and Sunday 22 February 2026 — the seven fixtures were found enticing at all level. The dust has settled and the title race has a brand new look.
1. Coton Sport de Garoua 5–1 AS Fortuna de Mfou | Garoua, 18 February 2026
The Cotton Giants Wake Up — and Fortuna Pay a Heavy Price
Coton Sport needed just twelve minutes to break Fortuna’s resistance, with Ella II’s opener signaling what was to come for the visitors. From that moment on, it was an authoritative display that ended 5–1 and left little room for debate.
Manguele Elong doubled the lead shortly before the half-hour mark, and by the time Dieu Ne Dort Pascal Avama made it three in the second half, AS Fortuna’s players were already thinking of the long and tedious return journey that awaits them. Nevertheless, Moussa Limane and Emanuel Parfait Dakana completed the goal tally for the home side but Nsoh Asaah grabbed a consolation for the visitors.
The northern law was in full effect at the Stade Omnisports Annexe, and Coton Sport riding the wave — With twelve points from six games, the title race has a new contender to consider seriously.
Coton Sport: Ella II (12′), Manguele Elong (20′), Avama (52′), Moussa Limane (68′), Dakana | Fortuna: Nsoh Asaah
2. Gazelle FA de Garoua 2–1 Fauve Azur Élite | Garoua, 18 February 2026
Daura Does It Again — The Ballon d’Or Contender Delivers When It Matters Most
Serges Daura — 2025 Ballon d’Or nominee and the league’s top scorer from last season (15 goals) — reminded everyone he’s back in action with a brace that sealed Gazelle FA’s narrow but deserved victory over a Fauve Azur side still searching for consistency.
Daura opened from the spot in the 21st minute, a calm and composed finish that set the tone. His second, midway through the second half, was the killer blow that Fauve Azur, for all their toiling, could not recover from. It was the forward’s first double of the current campaign, and it came at precisely the right moment for a Gazelle side hungry to keep pace at the summit.
Fauve Azur, languishing near the foot of the table with just three points, remain without a second win of the season. The road back to Yaounde looks long. For Gazelle, they remain in the conversation at the very top — and Daura, once again, is the man making the difference.
Gazelle FA: Daura (21′ pen, 76′) | Fauve Azur: (own goal not specified)
3. Unisport du Haut Nkam 1–0 PWD de Bamenda | 21 February 2026
Mbappé Strikes in the Dying Seconds — and the League Table Turns Upside Down
This game was the expression of top-flight football in Cameroon. Two of the division’s in-form sides, facing each other in what amounted to an unofficial summit clash — Unisport sitting fourth, PWD perched at the summit — served up a tense, gripping encounter that the home side ultimately won through a moment of late drama.
PWD came into the game playing with the confidence of a league leader, and it showed. For much of the first half, they dominated possession and territory, pressing Unisport back into their own defensive third. Thirty minutes of sterile but structured pressure. Unisport grew in stature and in belief, and their reward came in the most dramatic of fashions —Dylan Kouam Mbappé, drilling home the only goal deep into first-half stoppage time, in the 47th minute.
PWD pushed relentlessly in the second half, but the Unisport defence held firm. The final whistle brought jubilation for the home fans and a painful lesson for the visitors: Unisport climb to second, level on points with Gazelle FA, while PWD drop to fourth. The title race, already fascinating, just got a great deal more interesting.
Unisport: Dylan Kouam Mbappé (45+2′)
4. Aigle Royal de la Menoua 3–3 Stade Renard de Melong | Bafoussam, 22 February 2026
Six Goals, Two Comebacks, One Unforgettable Afternoon in Bamendzi
Aigle Royal stormed out of the blocks, Ulrich Pange Lobé putting them ahead inside ten minutes before Blaise Fuh Ndiforchu doubled the advantage just three minutes later. This looked more like an easy afternoon for the home fans who began to relax at halftime. They were wrong to.
Stade Renard, managed by Souleymanou Aboubakar, came out transformed after the break. Arthur Mani Mben reduced the deficit five minutes into the second half, only for Ndiforchu to restore the two-goal cushion on the hour mark with a well-taken second, his brace for the evening with an assist from team captain, Cecil Meyeke Gefeh.
But Stade Renard would not lie down. Jean Simplice Mbang made it 3–2 in the 73rd minute, and then, with just nine minutes remaining, veteran right back Carlain Manga Mbah bent in a stunning free-kick from an acute angle to level at 3–3. The home side had allowed victory to slip through their fingers, and there was a sense, as the final whistle blew, that the point would serve Stade Renard far better in the long run.
Aigle Royal sit on six points with their goal difference in negative territory, while Stade Renard, still searching for a first win, now have five points from five draws and a sole defeat. Both sides have work to do, but Sunday reminded us all why this league is worth watching.
Aigle Royal: Pange Lobé (10′), Ndiforchu (13′, 52′) | Stade Renard: Mani Mben (50′), Mbang (73′), Manga Mbah (85′)
5. Panthère Sportive du Ndé 0–1 Colombe Sportive du Dja | 22 February 2026
Colombe Serve Notice Ahead of the Super Cup Showdown
There was an edge to this one that went beyond the usual stakes of a league fixture. With the Cameroon Super Cup less than five days away — a final that will see these two clubs face each other again — Sunday’s meeting felt, in many ways, like a rehearsal. And on this occasion, Colombe passed the audition with flying colours.
The decisive moment came early. Colombe struck in the 16th minute, and that early goal proved to be the dagger that coach Yves Clément Aroga of Panthère could not remove from his side’s chest. The home fans had shown up in force, filling the stands with noise and colour, but the “l’oiseau du Dja” — as Colombe are affectionately known — were the sharper, more cohesive unit.
Panthère were handed a lifeline when the referee pointed to the spot in the final quarter of the game, but Raphaël Marc Yapende missed the penalty, and with it went Panthère’s best chance of salvaging something. Five minutes of added time produced plenty of intent but precious little quality, and Colombe held on.
The result means Colombe have not forgotten the pain of their Cup of Cameroon final defeat to this very opponent. The revenge narrative is building nicely, and it promises to add an extra layer of excitment to the Super Cup encounter. Panthère, current holders of Cameroon cup will need to regroup under Yves Clement Arroga and learn from the flaws of this game. On the other hand, Richard Towa has gotten a small revenge that will need to be confirmed when both teams meet on Thursday for the super cup.
Colombe: Eyango Priso (16′)
6. Dynamo de Douala 0–2 Canon Sportif de Yaoundé | Bépanda, 22 February 2026
The Fortress Falls — Canon Storm Bépanda in a Classico to Remember
Dynamo de Douala have built a reputation at the Stade de la Réunification as a side difficult to beat on home soil. Canon Sportif of Yaoundé came to Bépanda and dismantled that reputation with a calm, clinical display that Patrice Noukeu’s side can be thoroughly proud of.
The tone was set as early as the sixth minute, when Juste De Bonheur Koulou latched onto a Franck Steve Belobo pass and finished with composure. Dynamo, already disrupted — coach Simplice Soh would later reveal a chaotic pre-match involving a disputed team sheet and a delayed warm-up — never really found their footing.
Belobo, having played the provider in the first half, turned creator and finisher in the second, racing onto a through ball on the right flank, controlling with precision, and slotting past the keeper in the 53rd minute. At 2–0, the game was over. Dynamo did earn a penalty, and the Canon players reacted furiously — sitting down on the pitch in protest — but ultimately resumed, and Jefter Arrey Oduak missed the spot-kick anyway. The score remained 0–2 at the FINAL whistle.
Simplice Soh was candid afterwards, pointing to the absence of two key attackers through injury, as well as the administrative fiasco that cost his side a proper warm-up. Noukeu, for his part, was measured and honest, acknowledging a slow start to the season while noting that the performances had been improving steadily. Today, the results followed. Canon climb to seventh with eight points, and the mood in their camp will be considerably lighter heading into matchday seven.
Canon: Koulou (6′), Belobo (53′) | Dynamo: —
7. Aigle Royal du Moungo 0–1 Victoria United de Limbe | 22 February 2026
One Moment, One Man, One Statement — OPOPO Finally Announce Themselves
Sometimes, all you need is one moment — and Zeh Mengue provided exactly that, five minutes from time, to hand Victoria United their first truly undeniable win of the season. For a club that has played some decent football but found itself repeatedly on the wrong side of results, this felt significant.
President Valentine Nkwain’s decision to play young players throughout the campaign has not always been met with patience from the stands, and the Limbe-based side has faced criticism for its inconsistency. But there are signs that the work is bearing fruit. Against Aigle Royal du Moungo, they were compact and organised,
Mengue’s late strike — clinical, decisive, and coolly taken — was the reward for a disciplined performance. Victoria United move up to sixth with nine points, unbeaten in their last three. Aigle du Moungo, meanwhile, remain winless in six outings – a troubling run that shows little sign of improving.
Victoria United: Zeh Mengue (85′)

Green shading: top two. Red shading: relegation zone.
Gazelle FA and Unisport lead the pack on thirteen points apiece, separated only by goal difference in what promises to be one of the most competitive title races the MTN Elite One has seen in years. Coton Sport lurk ominously in third, just one-point back, while PWD de Bamenda — despite losing the league lead on Saturday — remain very much in the conversation at twelve points. Down at the other end, Fauve Azur and Aigle du Moungo face a battle against the drop. Matchday 7 cannot come soon enough…
