2023 CAF Women’s Champions League: AS Mande Secures First Spot.

Mali’s AS Mande have secured the first spot in this year’s CAF Women’s Champions League that is scheduled to take place in Cote d’Ivoire from the 5th to 19th of November this year.

The two-time champions of the Malian Women’s Championship were crowned champions of the WAFU Zone A Qualifiers played in Liberia. They were involved in a round-robin tournament between 5th to 13th August, as they faced stiff competition from host Determine Girls, Dakar Sacre Coeur of Senegal and Sierra Leone’s Mogwemo Queens.

Their achievement earned the team in a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League after missing out in last year’s edition and will be making a second appearance in the three-year-old competition.

Their first appearance in the CAF Champions League wasn’t a good memory to remember as they finished bottom in Group A that year.

Coach Moustaph Laicou Traore will be relying on the Continental experience of star striker, Awa Traore – who is familiar with the CAF Women’s Champions League – having found the club’s first-ever goal in the competition when they lost 3-1 to Egypt’s Wadi Degla.

It should be noted that there will be an increase in the prize to $400000 for the winners – a significant effort made by CAF in its efforts to develop the Women’s game in Africa
