Cameroon’s Beach Volleyball Heroes Return Triumphant from African Zone 4 Championship

Yaoundé, 9 July 2025 — The atmosphere was electric at the Cameroon Volleyball Federation (Fecavolley) headquarters in Dragage, Yaoundé, as the nation’s beach volleyball stars returned from the African Zone 4 Championship in Bangui, Central African Republic. The homecoming ceremony on Wednesday celebrated a historic triumph, with Cameroon’s women’s duo clinching the gold medal and the men’s pair securing a respectable bronze.

A Golden Moment for Cameroon Beach Volleyball

The standout heroes of the event were the women’s pair, Amantchang and Ngo Oum, who proudly brought back the championship trophy and their gleaming gold medals. They presented their hard-earned prizes to Bello Bourdanne, President of Fecavolley and also head of the African Volleyball Confederation for Zone 4 (CAVB-Zone 4), marking an important milestone for the sport in Cameroon.

Alongside them, the men’s team—Mbongue and Salim—showcased their bronze medals, a testament to the rising competitiveness of Cameroonian beach volleyball on the sub-regional stage.

Recognition and Future Ambitions

During the brief but heartfelt ceremony, Ngo Oum handed over a prestigious gift from the Central African federation to Bello Bourdanne, acknowledging the federation’s unwavering support for the growth of beach volleyball in Cameroon.

Visibly moved, Bourdanne congratulated the athletes on their outstanding achievements, highlighting that this gold medal is the very first of its kind for Cameroon on the African continent. “This victory is not just a win, it’s a symbol of what’s to come,” he remarked, expressing hope that it would pave the way for even greater successes.

Investing in the Future of Beach Volleyball

Bourdanne also took the opportunity to remind everyone about the significant investments made to promote and develop beach volleyball in Cameroon. The latest addition is a dedicated facility at Yaoundé’s Municipal Lake, boasting four beach volleyball courts—two of which are already operational. It was on these courts that the Bangui teams, along with the players who represented Cameroon at the recent U21 African Nations Championship in Morocco, honed their skills before the competition.

Looking ahead, Bourdanne reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Cameroonian pairs in upcoming international events, including their planned participation in the Beach Volleyball Pro Tour in Burundi scheduled for the coming weeks.

National Training Camp on the Horizon

Before that, the beach volleyball players will gather for their first national training camp from 18 to 20 July at the Municipal Lake in Yaoundé, a crucial step in preparing for future challenges and building on their recent success.

As Cameroon’s beach volleyball scene continues to gain momentum, the nation watches eagerly, hopeful that these champions are just the beginning of a new era for the sport.
