Espoir Revive Campaign, Litto Team and PAD Light Up Douala as CAVB ZONE IV African Club Champions League Heats Up

The CAVB Zone IV African Club Champions League is well underway in Douala, Cameroon, with Tuesday’s matchday 3 delivering three absorbing encounters at the Japoma multisports complex.

The day began with an eagerly anticipated local derby in the women’s draw. Litto Team, Cameroon’s reigning champions, took on Nyong-Kellé, who finished third in last season’s national championship. These sides know each other inside out, creating a fascinating viewing.

Nyong-Kellé came out swinging. Their aggressive approach and high tempo caught Litto off guard, and they nicked the opening set 26-24. The title holders found their rhythm, tightened up defensively, and powered through the next three sets with increasing confidence. Final score: 3-1 (24-26, 25-12, 25-15, 25-21).

Over in the men’s competition, VC Espoir from the Democratic Republic of Congo faced Gabon’s Assom-GR in what felt like a must-win fixture for both teams. Having each lost their opening matches, neither could afford another slip-up if they wanted to stay in contention.

VC Espoir showed real character. Under coach Mukwidi Thomas, they kept their heads, stayed disciplined, and gradually wore down the Gabonese resistance 3-1 (25-14, 20-25, 25-19, 25-23), a result that breathes new life into their campaign.

The evening’s main event was another Douala derby—this time in the men’s tournament—as Litto Team faced off against Port Autonome de Douala (PAD). It’s a rivalry with proper history, and the atmosphere reflected that.

Litto, youthful and hungry, went toe-to-toe with PAD’s seasoned squad. PAD’s composure under pressure made the crucial difference, and they edged all three sets to claim a clean 3-0 victory (25-20, 25-23, 27-25).

Wednesday’s schedule sees Nyong-Kellé take on VC La Loi at midday in the women’s competition, while the men’s fixtures kick off at 2pm with VC Espoir facing PAD, followed by Service National against Assom-GR at 4pm.
