As the new volleyball season gets underway in Cameroon, the Cameroon Volleyball Federation (FECAVOLLEY) have been busy over the past few days. Meetings, training sessions and planning have all gone on at the Yaoundé headquarters, giving an indication of the enthusiasm within the federation.
Clubs at the table
A meeting was held on Wednesday morning between club Presidents and representatives. Both parties were eager to ensure all practical details were covered.
This included organisation, coordination and running of competitions to ensure everything was set up nicely as the season gets underway.
There were a few who couldn’t attend in person, however they were able to join via video call. This shows how much the federation want to include as many people as they can from the volleyball community.
It is clear that FECAVOLLEY and the clubs have a desire to make this campaign successful with great organisation and performance.
Coaches get trained up
Although sports federations always talk about improving standards, it doesn’t mean anything unless the people on the sidelines are better prepared. This was achieved through the coaches’ clinic.
The clinic took place in the FECAVOLLEY meeting room on the same morning. It was organised by the National Technical Director (DTN) Mayam Blaise Reniof and delivered by expert selected individuals.
The coaches were given information about best practice when preparing, during and after the season. They were given advice on how to best prepare their squads, care for their athletes and ensure they perform at their best. This means that a well-run season starts well before the first match day.
Through this, the national technical directorate hope to create a more structured approach to coaching and develop the coaches. Overall creating a season with improved performance.
DTN looks to young players
The technical directorate have another project in the pipeline that may prove to be more important in the long run. The DTN are moving forward with organising the preparation for the Harmonised Programme for the Revival of Youth Volleyball in Cameroon.
A working session took place on Wednesday afternoon in the FECAVOLLEY offices. The session was to design and finalize the theoretical resources needed to train instructors. The programme was presented on 15th October by the FECAVOLLEY President and approved by the Board of Directors.
The objective is to ensure a standardized approach to teaching and coaching across the country. This will improve the skillset of those coaching young players. At the moment there can be a large difference between how a child is taught volleyball in one town compared to another. However, with a unified approach this can be improved.
By providing a good foundation the DTN want to create a unified approach to the technical side of the game. If this is done correctly, then the training at grass roots level will improve and youth volleyball will flourish across the country.
