The brand-new South West Regional Championship kicked off at the Limbe Centenary Stadium on Saturday in the presence of Fecafoot boss Samuel Eto’o.
For the first time, two opening games were programmed to take place – with Kumba City FC to line up against debutants Bright Stars Academy in the first game, while Tiko United and last season’s finalists Best Stars Academy exchange soccpunchhes in the second game.
Kumba City 2-1 Bright Stars
Kumba City FC returned to winning ways in the new campaign after losing last season’s Semifinal tie to Best Stars with a 2-1 win over Bright Stars.
Things didn’t start as they had planned as Bright Stars scored first through Aurani Eyong to put the newly promoted side in front.
The experience Kumba City side will then bounce back in the second half with two goals from Abena Jordan to give the last year’s finalists all three points.
Best Stars 1-1 Tiko United
As pundits had predicted, the second game was a clash between the Titans as Best Stars and Tiko United share the spoils on day one – as was the same scoreline when the two sides met in the first leg last season.
Best Stars opened the scoring with a goal from Egbe Agbor, but Ekene Livinus equalized as the Samba boys secured a point.
The remainder of match day one games will continue on Sunday in Stadia across the region.
