Cameroon Handed Tough Draw for Women’s Volleyball World Cup 2027

Cameroon now have a clear idea of what lies ahead at the Women’s Volleyball World Cup 2027. The Indomitable Lionesses have been pitted against a tricky group consisting of Canada, Serbia and Ukraine in Pool G.

Canada are the host nation and are sitting in 8th in the seeding. Serbia may be in 9th position but have a knack for causing problems at major events. Finally, Ukraine will not be making the trip across to North America to make up the numbers. On paper, Cameroon are the 4th team in the group.

But as we know, Volleyball doesn’t care about paper.

What Does Pool G Mean?

The key element to note is the structure of the tournament. The top two teams in each group progress through to the round of 16. This means Cameroon will have to finish above at least two of their opponents. A tall order but definitely achievable.

The bracket shows that whoever finishes first will face the runners-up of Pool B. The second-placed team from Pool G will face the winners of Pool B. Brazil, who are seeded second, are in Pool B with the Czech Republic, Kenya and South Korea. If Cameroon can finish second, this could leave them facing a giant early in the tournament.

A Point of Pride For African Volleyball

Cameroon are the only African nation to have qualified both their Men’s and Women’s national teams. This is a huge point of pride for the Cameroon Volleyball Federation and the country as a whole. This shows that the work they have been doing at home has been paying off, despite often having less resources than the teams they will face.

They will also not be the only African nation in the tournament. Kenya have been placed in Pool B and Egypt in Pool C. This means there will be three African flags present and plenty of hope. Egypt will be facing Turkey, Dominican Republic and France. Kenya will also face Brazil, Czech Republic and South Korea. All look like challenging groups for Cameroon’s friends on the continent.

The Work Has Started

The draw has been completed so it is time to get to work. Cameroon know exactly who they will be facing, where and how little time they actually have to build a team capable of competing with the best. Preparation will play a large role in how well Cameroon perform. Friendly games against quality opposition will be needed.

It will be a long journey to Montreal but no one expects the Lionesses to take it easy.
