Report earlier this week states that there was a chance that the upcoming African cup of nations AFCON was at risk of cancellation or postponement due to in-fighting between those responsible for organizing the tournament
Eduardo Hagn who is a journalist claim that this was due to the president of Cameroon’s football governing body FACAFOT being « on his role illegally »
The AFCON scheduled to take place from the 9 of January to the 6 of February next year after it was initially set to be hosted in Cameroon in June and July last year. Which was however moved due to unfortunate weather conditions and covid 19 pandemic
It should be noted that in a statement released on Monday by the CAF executive committee revealed that the up coming tournament has been approved with the official calendar soon to be distributed
As seen on CAF’s website says, the executive committee received a comprehensive report from the CAF organizing committee delegation led by Vice President Augustin Senghor and General Secretary Veron Mesongo Omba who recently visited Cameroon
The executive committee noted that the report and the progress made so far. The EXCO emphasized the need to make follow ups with the local organizing committee on the areas that still need urgent attention and also ratified the signing of the Agreement for the Organizing Association Agreement (OAA) of the AFCON with the host nation
The executive committee also raised sanitary matters that will be part of ongoing discussion between CAF and Cameroon government
On the 2021/2022 CAF calendar « the executive committee approved the 2021/2022 competitions calendar which will be distributed in due time
