Cameroon Volleyball Referee Takes History-Making Tourney Point in Africa’s Maiden Youth Games

As Senegal hosts the first-ever Youth Olympic Games on African soil,  Cameroon enjoys glory on-court in the form of a referee.

FIVB International Beach Volleyball official Rodigue Deuboué has been appointed as one of the officials to officiate in the tournament. This is great news for Cameroonian Volleyball, showing that a local referee has grabbed hold of one of the biggest events in the world.

Rodigue spoke about the special moment for him. “The honour is amazing for Cameroon and Africa to have someone representing us on the world stage. We haven’t really had any referees to represent Cameroonian Volleyball in an Olympic event, so this will allow us to get more representation going forward.”

He has equally been applauded by the Canadian Volleyball Federation through Volleyball Alberta.

This shows that even though referees are rarely reported on, those who have come to the top have do enormous work on behalf of their country. To have a Cameroonian Volleyball official getting a call up for their first Olympic experience shows that they are taking note of the hard work being done by the officials back home.

Furthermore, this will inspire younger referees in Cameroon to strive to achieve what they have. Now they know there is a real opportunity for one of theirs to compete in an Olympic event.

For now, the green, red and yellow colours have been flying high in Senegal thanks to our referees
