CAF Pays Tribute To Aboubakar After Heroic WC Display.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has paid tribute to the Indomitable lion’s talisman and Captain Vincent Aboubakar for his heroic display at the 2022 World Cup currently taking place in Qatar.

The Al Nassr forward scored two goals and one assist which helped Cameroon to record one of her best World Cup performances in 20 years.

The 2021 Afcon top scorer came off the bench against Serbia on Matchday two of Group G to score one of the best goals of the tournament after casually scooped the ball over Vanja Milinkovic – Savic and then he will then beat the offside track to set up fellow countryman Eric Maxim Choupo Moting as Cameroon drew 3-3 with the Balkan nation.

Against Brazil, the task looked difficult but Rigobert Song was confident as he gave Aboubakar his first start in the tournament against the five-time World Champs.

The game was an entertaining one as Aboubakar’s stoppage-time header became the winner of the game.

With this heroic display, the Pan African Football Powerhouse then put up an iconic – breathtaking image of Aboubakar’s historic goal celebration against Brazil with a strong 22-worded message.

It should be noted that this goal created multiple records in the history of the World Cup.

  • The win for Cameroon was their first win at the FIFA World Cup since 2002.
  • This is Brazil’s first defeat to an African side at the World Cup.
  • This is Brazil’s first defeat at the group stage of the World Cup since 1998.
  • This is the first time that Cameroon have scored four goals at the world cup stage.
  • Vincent Aboubakar becomes the third African to score against Brazil at the World after Didier Drogba in 2010 and Joel Matip in 2014.
