Cameroon Reigns Supreme on Day Two of CAVB Zone 4 Volleyball Championship

Cameroon laid down a marker at the CAVB Zone 4 Nations Volleyball Championship on Tuesday, sweeping aside all opposition to underline their status as the dominant force in the sub-region.

The Lionesses got the ball rolling with an impressive 3-0 victory over Congo in a repeat of their opening fixture. After romping to a 25-7 first-set demolition, Cameroon faced stiffer resistance from their opponents but held firm to take the next two sets 25-18 and 25-17.

Speaking after the match, Cameroon captain Tshombe Ahelya was clearly delighted with her side’s performance. “We’re absolutely thrilled to have won this second match and we’re now looking ahead to Thursday’s final,” she said. “Yesterday was about getting into the swing of things, and it went our way. Today, we carried on, but they came at us with real determination. You could see it from the start – the second and third sets weren’t easy at all, but we managed to get the job done by sticking to the coach’s instructions.

“We’re a young squad and in two or three years, we could do something really special. Thank you to everyone following us and cheering us on – we promise to give everything to bring home the victory on Thursday.”

The men’s tournament saw Cameroon make their bow, and the Lions wasted no time in making their presence felt. The Central African Republic attempted to put up a fight but was simply blown away by a relentless Cameroonian attack from all angles, succumbing 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-14).

Wednesday’s action promises to be a cracker as Cameroon take on hosts Congo in the sole fixture of match day three. With both sides having dispatched the Central African Republic, this clash between the region’s top two men’s teams will settle bragging rights – at least for now. Throw-off is at 2pm local time.
