Cameroon completed the Zone 4 African Nations Beach Volleyball Championship on Sunday in a commanding manner, winning first place in both the men’s and women’s divisions to complete an incredible double. It was the kind of weekend that confirms what many in the region already suspected: Cameroon’s beach volleyball programme is not just competitive; it is a cut above. Winning one title with the same authority is quite another.
In both the men’s and women’s competitions, the Central African Republic finished second, running them closest in every draw. That in and of itself indicates that the CAR had a respectable tournament and had genuine potential throughout the competition. Cameroon, however, were just too formidable.
The trophy cabinet is just one aspect of those final standings. Cameroon and the Central African Republic have officially confirmed their spots in the African Beach Volleyball Championship’s continental phase, where they will represent Zone 4. Based on what was demonstrated this past weekend, they will go there not only to make up the numbers.
