Two defeats to open the tournament. That’s how Cameroon’s U18 volleyball campaign at the CHAN U18 Alexandria 2026 championship started, Losses to Egypt and Tunisia left the young Lions and Lionesses with plenty to prove. Well, they’ve now answered back, and answered back convincingly.
The women’s team got things moving first. Facing Senegal on match day four, Cameroon’s girls delivered a commanding straight sets win, 3-0, with scores of 25-16, 25-21 and 25-12. It was the kind of performance that suggested the earlier setbacks hadn’t dented their confidence one bit.
The boys weren’t far behind. On match day two, Cameroon’s young men took on Libya and came through 3-1, winning 25-21, 25-15, losing the third set 23-25 before closing things out 25-12. A gritty response, and exactly the kind of resilience a squad needs after a rocky start.
Then came Algeria on match day three, and this was never going to be straightforward. The Cameroon boys arrived early at the Pioneers American School Gymnasium in Alexandria, well settled in and ready for what everyone knew would be a tough assignment. The mood in camp, though, stayed upbeat. Juan Mbira and his teammates went out and backed up their earlier win with another one, sweeping Algeria 3-0 by a scoreline of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-16.
Two wins on the bounce for the boys, and a statement victory for the girls. Not a bad turnaround at all for a Cameroon side that looked shaky just days earlier.
