Africa’s volleyball family will reunite in Nairobi from 23rd August to 5th September for the CAVB Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship, and in Yaoundé, Cameroon’s Lionesses are already back at work.
Sixteen nations have been confirmed for the tournament, with hosts Kenya entering as defending champions. They’ve won the continental title ten times already and will be chasing an eleventh crown on home soil.
The African Volleyball Confederation released its official list of the sixteen qualified nations, and while the draw is still to come, nobody in the Cameroon camp is waiting around to find out who they’ll be facing. The Lionesses are pushing ahead with preparations regardless, determined to arrive in Nairobi in the best possible shape.

Coach Yende’s squad reported to camp and got straight down to business, no easing in, no gentle introduction. Their first session at the Palais Polyvalent des Sports in Yaoundé was an intense one. Under the technical staff’s guidance, the focus fell squarely on physical conditioning, technical work and tactical grounding, the sort of foundation coaches like to lay early, before the pressure of a tournament draw starts shaping everything else.
There’s still a way to go before Cameroon know who stands between them and a serious run at the title. But if this first session is anything to go by, the Lionesses aren’t planning to leave much to chance.
