The Cameroon Football Federation has announced a new start date for the 2022 edition of the National Interpool for Promotion to Elite two football Championship. The decision was taken on Wednesday, August 30, 2022.
The competition will run from September 11 to 26, 2022, in Limbe, South West Region of Cameroon. Initially, the competition was to start on August 18, 2022, but the competition was postponed due to the fact that majority of the regions had not produced their champions.
This year’s National Playoffs will be played in two pools of five teams each. The top two teams will qualify for the Semifinals, while the two finalists will gain promotion to next season’s MTN Elite two football championship.
This will be the first time that the South West Region is hosting the National interpools for close to two decades. It should be recalled that the South West Region co-hosted the competition last year with the West Region and the Annex of the Limbe Omnisports Stadium was used.
Three stadiums have been chosen by the Football Federation to host the tournament: Limbe Omnisport Stadium, Limbe Middle Farms Stadium and the Limbe Centenary Stadium.
So far, eight of the 10 regions have produced their champions ahead of the playoffs. Only the Far North and the West Regions are still to produce their champions.
Victoria United (South West), Hilltop Strikers (North West), Nkofu Football Academy FC(Centre), Real De Bertoua(East), FC Ebolowa (South), National FC (North), Aigle De Moungo(Littoral) and AS Olympic of Menganga (Adamawa) have booked their place at the playoffs.
Pool A consist of Hilltop Strikers, National FC, Nkofu FC, AS Olympic of Menganga and the West Regional representatives yet to be produced. While Pool B consist of Victoria United, FC Ebolowa, Real De Bertoua, Aigle De Moungo and the Representative for the Far North Region yet to be produced.
It should be noted that only FC Ebolowa is the only team making a second consecutive appearance in the competition, having participated in last year’s edition in Limbe. While Victoria United of Limbe will be in their third Interpools in the last six years.
Three team’s qualified from the competition to the elite two last year: AS Lausanne, Gazelle FA, and Rangers FC of Bafut.
