National Interpools: SW Region Welcomes Elite Football After Eight Years.

The South West Region will in the 2022/23 season welcome elite football following the qualification of Victoria United AKA OPOPO to the MTN Elite Two Football Championship.

The South West Champions beat NGV of Menoua 2-1 in the first semifinal of the ongoing National Interpools currently taking place in Limbe.

It took only one minute, 20 seconds for Ashu Cerezo to score the game’s opening goal to put Victoria United in front.

Series of chances for Opopo to increase their goal tally before halftime, but the chances were squandered as Opopo held their lead at halftime.

The 2017 cup of Cameroon semifinalist started the second half just like the first. Few minutes into the second half, Mbuh Paul had a 25 yard shot that was saved by goalkeeper Emmanuel of NGV but paved the way for Desire Kanou who had been on a goal drought for three games to score his fifth of the competition, to put Opopo two goals up.

Being two goals down NGV began mounting pressure as they hunt for an inspirational goal. Midway to the second half, star boy Wilfred Nana scored a beauty from close range to help his side go within one in the game.

The goal from Wilfred Nana means he has now scored in all five games for NGV – making him the current top scorer with six goals.

NGV continue to mount pressure to get the equalizer but the defence of Victoria United led by Echu Perry was up to the task as it ended 2-1 to Victoria United.

It should be noted that this is the first time Elite football is returning to the South West Since 2014.

Meanwhile, Aigle De Mungo won Hilltop Strikers 2-1 to join Victoria United as the two teams to qualify for the Country’s second-tier championship.

Victoria United will play Aigle this weekend in the final of the Interpool to determine the champions.

Victoria United’s Stats of The Season.
