Opening Weekend Balance Sheet: FAP and Port Autonome Lead the Way as Cameroon’s Volleyball Championship kicksoff in Yaoundé

The 2025/26 Cameroon National Volleyball Championship burst into action this weekend at the Mfandena gymnasium in Yaoundé, with the Armed Forces and Police (FAP) teams asserting their dominance across both the men’s and women’s competitions.

Over two days of intense action on 17-18 January, volleyball fans were treated to a thrilling spectacle that marked the official start of what promises to be a packed season domestically and internationally.

Federation president Bello Bourdanne was on hand to witness the festivities, settling into his seat at the Mfandena venue to soak up the atmosphere of the opening weekend. His presence underscored the significance of the occasion, as players and supporters alike revelled in their return to competitive action after months of rest.

Women’s Competition: FAP Make Strong Statement

In the women’s draw, the Armed Forces and Police side made an emphatic opening statement with a commanding 3-0 victory over Fatgo’o Volleyball Club (25-21, 25-18, 25-21). Their clinical performance set the tone for what could be a dominant campaign.

Elsewhere, Litto Team Volleyball swept aside Dream Sport Academy 3-0 in equally convincing fashion (25-11, 25-07, 25-09), whilst Mayo Kani Évolution edged Anna Meches Volleyball 3-1 (25-11, 19-25, 25-20, 29-27) in a closely fought encounter.

Sunday’s action provided perhaps the weekend’s most dramatic moment, as Nyon et Kelle Volleyball clawed back from two sets down to defeat Dream Sport Academy 3-2 (23-25, 24-26, 25-13, 25-18, 15-06) in a pulsating five-setter. Litto Team continued their impressive start with another straight-sets win, this time 3-0 over Anna Meches (25-14, 25-13, 25-18).

Men’s Division: Port Autonome and FAP Shine

The men’s tournament proved equally compelling, with Port Autonome de Douala and the Armed Forces teams matching their female counterparts with perfect starts to the campaign.

FAP swept past Dream Sport Academy 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 26-24) on Saturday before dispatching Club Efoulan Volleyball by the same scoreline on Sunday (25-11, 25-23, 25-13). Port Autonome de Douala were similarly ruthless, defeating both Shekina Sport Academy 3-0 (25-10, 25-12, 25-13) and Dynamique Nouvelle de Douala 3-0 (25-13, 25-09, 25-17).

FAP

The weekend’s most entertaining men’s fixture saw Litto Team Volleyball pip Cameroun Sport Volleyball 3-2 (22-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-14, 15-10) in a thrilling decider on Saturday. Cameroun Sport bounced back impressively on Sunday, however, claiming a straight-sets victory over Dream Sport Academy (25-12, 25-19, 25-18).

A Season Full of Promise

Speaking to those present, the mood around the gymnasium was one of genuine excitement. Players were visibly delighted to be back on court, their enthusiasm palpable after the off-season break. The turnout and energy from supporters suggested the volleyball community in Cameroon is in rude health.
