Young athletes from across the nation converge on Douala for the prestigious U20 tournament

The spotlight shines on Cameroon’s next generation of volleyball talent this weekend as the National Youth Volleyball Championship gets underway at the Japoma Sports Complex in Douala. From April 11-14, 2025, more than a dozen teams representing all five sectors of the Cameroon Volleyball Federation (Fecavolley) will battle for supremacy in what promises to be an electrifying showcase of young talent.

National Team Scouts on High Alert

Beyond the glory of winning the championship, these matches carry extra significance for the competing athletes. National team selectors will be watching closely, evaluating performances with an eye toward recruiting promising players for Cameroon’s U20 national squads. For many participants, this tournament represents their best opportunity to catch the attention of scouts and potentially launch their international careers.

Regional Powerhouses Face Off

The tournament features teams from all corners of Cameroon, organized into five competitive sectors:

  • Sector 1: Far North and North regions
  • Sector 2: Adamawa and East regions
  • Sector 3: Center and South regions
  • Sector 4: Littoral and Southwest regions
  • Sector 5: West and Northwest regions

Girls’ Competition Heats Up

Saturday’s opening matches in the girls’ category will see Center+South take on Littoral+Southwest, while West+Northwest faces Far North+North. The competition intensifies with Center+South meeting West+Northwest later in the day, followed by Far North+North battling Littoral+Southwest.

Sunday’s schedule features the crucial matchups of Center+South versus Far North+North and Littoral+Southwest against West+Northwest before the championship final between the top two teams.

Boys’ Tournament Features Intense Schedule

The boys’ division features an even more packed schedule with 10 preliminary matches spread across Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s action kicks off with Center+South against West+Northwest, followed by Far North+North versus Adamawa+East.

Five matches will be played each day before Monday’s final showdown between the top two performers in the round-robin format.
