Victoria United Awarded Three Points, Consolidates Elite 2 Summit.

MTN Elite two league leaders Victoria United have been awarded three points following a premature end of their match day 13 clash against Unisport of Haut- Nkam at the Bafang Municipal Stadium on February 12.

The Bafang base side was leading 1-0 after David Caleb scored midway through the second half,  but in the 92nd minute – Samuel Nzelle brought down Victoria United forward Elias Jonas in the penalty and the referee pointed to the spot for a penalty. The fans couldn’t hold their emotions as they invaded the pitch and molested the match officials – leading to a premature end of the game.

In addition to the point deduction, the club will have to pay a fine of 5 million FCFA as part of the sanction.

It should be noted that a few hours after the ugly incident, the club issued a statement condemning the act by the fans and assured the public that the institution is willing to work with the rules and regulations of football in the country.

Then on Monday, the Secretary General of the Transitional Committee for Professional Football issued a communique condemning the act and banned the Bafang Municipal Stadium till further notice.

The verdict now puts Victoria United on 26 points – three points clear off second place AS FAP.
